Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Pelvic health physiotherapy offers valuable assistance by addressing a range of pelvic-related issues. Through tailored interventions, pelvic health physiotherapy helps individuals regain control, alleviate discomfort, and improve their overall quality of life.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, the body goes through a lot of musculoskeletal changes. This can cause symptoms of pelvic girdle pain (previously known as SPD), lower back pain and sciatica. Physiotherapy can help to manage these symptoms throughout your pregnancy and delivery and can just give you peace of mind on the best way to looks after your body during the antenatal period.

Post-natal (MOT)

After pregnancy and delivery, your body can feel very different to how it was 9 months previously. During a post-natal check we assess the pelvic girdle and abdominal muscles to check for separation. We assess the pelvic floor (via vaginal examination) to check the strength of the muscles after delivery. We will  also assess bladder, bowel, sexual function and assess any perineal trauma that may have occurred in delivery.

Pelvic Floor

Having weakness in the pelvic floor can really affect your quality of life. Having difficulty emptying your bowels, leakage of urine or faeces or having to always look or plan for the nearest loo can take the joy out of socialising. It can also negatively affect intimate relationships too. Your initial appointment consists of in-depth history taking and listening to what you feel are your biggest concerns and a physical examination looking at posture, functional movement and pelvic floor function. This will then guide a treatment plan to get you feeling more in control again.
